Shaggy's Week 3 Recaps
Thrills, Spills, and...Turnovers. Lots of Turnovers.
Atlanta Hustle 30 @ Vegas Bighorns 12
Atlanta continued their cardinal sin of playing everyone big minutes in blowouts. I wonder if this will come back to bite them in the future once again? (foreshadowing) I had Austin Taylor on my fantasy team, so I was happy about it (he had 6 assists and a goal), and Vegas also somehow had the top 10 in plus/minus in this game which seems impossible. Vegas had 13 players with double digit offensive points played which has to be some kind of record, and also finished the game with 12 drops, which probably isn’t a record because the Detroit Mechanix and the Cincinnati Revolution played a game in 2016 that had 141 TURNOVERS IN IT, but it certainly felt like a record in the moment. The Bighorns are averaging 41 turnovers per game, nearly twice as many as the second worst Steel.
Salt Lake Shred 26 @ Colorado Apex 16
It’s wild that we can have some of the offensive masterpieces that have been played this season, and also have this game, with 52 turnovers between both teams and a combined completion percentage below 90. This was an ugly game all around, although at the very start it looked like Colorado might make it a game, scoring three straight to take a 4-2 lead. They unfortunately gave up two goals in under a minute and allowed a second break to give up that lead, and would trail the rest of the game. The Shred are getting a ton of run from the return of Simon Datrup from Chicago, who has been a dynamic D-line threat both to get a block and to run the offense on a turn. Colorado is getting a lot of production from their young guns, including an impressive career start for Ben Harris, who now has 2 assists, 7 goals, and no throwaways. Salt Lake now thoroughly owns a matchup that started as an intense rivalry when these two teams entered the league.
Montreal Royal 17 @ Toronto Rush 18
Another tough loss for Montreal, as the Royal once again held the lead in the third quarter only to lose the game. Still, the more northern Canadians nearly completed the comeback, scoring twice in under 20 seconds to bring the game within one with 13 seconds left, but Toronto was able to fend them off. Toronto got a massive game from rookie Max Pettenuzzo, with an assist, goal, and 400 yards in the first game for the new player. The Toronto defense looked much better with the re-addition of Isiah Masek-Kelly, who helped guide the hungry D-line to an impressive 17 break chances. Sad news for Montreal as my favorite player, Kevin Quinlan, suffered an injury that could keep him on the sidelines for awhile.
Oakland Spiders 26 @ Seattle Cascades 16
Oakland took firm control of the west with their manhandling of Seattle, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead and never looking back. This was a game of runs, with both teams putting together multiple stretches of breaks, capped off by an extended 10/11 Oakland scores from the third to the fourth quarter. If there is one negative to this Spiders’ season thus far, it is that the team spreads the love so much that they will hurt themselves in the hunt for individual awards: ten players already have double digit plus minuses through 4 games, and three other players are +9.
Madison Radicals 19 @ Indianapolis Alleycats 18
The upset of the weekend as Madison secures second place in the Central division with their one point victory over the Alleycats. Indy had a two goal lead in the fourth quarter before giving up a pair of breaks and the lead. The Cats certainly looked as if they needed a few more weeks to get their brand new roster to gel. Madison picked up right where they ended 2025: throwing goals to Anthony Gutowsky. The league leader in 2025 had 5, including the final goal of the game with 13 seconds left to secure the win.
Philadelphia Phoenix 14 @ Carolina Flyers 31
Philly played very bad and the Flyers played very good. Carolina had just 3 turnovers on offense, and recovered all of them for a perfect 16/16 hold rate. Philadelphia had 22 turnovers on offense, and recovered just one: a 14/30 hold rate. The Flyers defensive players all had excellent games, while the offensive players still found time to shine, including 5 assists and a goal for Allan Laviolette in his hunt for the 2026 MVP. Chase Rawlins will probably lead Philly in goals, assists, and yards, an impressive feat for someone they cut in 2024 and barely played a season ago. He finished this game with 4 of each, plus nearly 500 yards. Flyers opponents are averaging a league high 28 turnovers a game, although the Las Vegas Turnovers, ahem, Bighorns had 40+ in their game against the Flyers. They are an outlier and maybe should not be counted.
Houston Havoc 15 @ Austin Sol 28
Austin redeemed its narrow win in Houston with a drubbing in Austin. Both Henke’s topped the game in plus minus, which might be the first time in league history a pair of brothers were the most productive parts of a game, combining for 6 assists, 5 goals, and three blocks. Houston needs to figure out how to not throw turnovers. Their current leader in goals and assists, Mark Turner, also has 8 turnovers on the season and is below 90% for the year, while center handler Jimmy Zuraw also has 8 turnovers, including four in this game.
Atlanta Hustle 15 @ San Diego Growlers 16
Look at that, Atlanta immediately paid for playing its top players heavy minutes against Vegas! Who would have thought? Unlike against Austin, where the Hustle were in control for most of the game but kept letting the Sol worm their way into it, San Diego immediately grabbed control, capitalizing on three straight break opportunities to go up 3-0 in the first quarter. The Hustle never led, and needed a furious comeback to bring it within 1. All the stars shone for San Diego, and Khalif El-Salaam had a perfect game, going 25 for 25 with 20 points played, the most for either team.
DC Breeze 26 @ New York Empire 25
The runner up to ATL v AUS for game of the year, this was another one point overtime thriller between two of the top teams in league history. New York had multiple opportunities to win this game, and gave up a goal with 20 seconds left in the fourth and somehow couldn’t get the buzzer beater to win in regulation, something they’ve done to DC more times than I could count. Then, after an early break gave them the OT lead, a throwaway from John Randolph of all people gave DC the disc in the red zone winning the game on a Luke Rehfuss grab as time expired. Just another incredible classic from two teams that never fail to entertain when they play each other.
Montreal Royal 32 @ Pittsburgh Thunderbirds 24
A clinic from Montreal’s offense, who bounced back from faltering down the stretch against Toronto to put up an impressive 80% OLC. A phenomenal game from the French Canadians, particularly for Jonas Tremblay-Joncas and Malik Auger-Semmar, who combined for 13 assists and nearly 1500 yards of total offense. For those on Will Hoffenkamp completion count watch, he unfortunately had just 34, 7 less than Ian Piper, who led the Thunderbirds. The Commonwealth Cup at the end of May might be the only chance for a Pennsylvania UFA team to win a frisbee game this year.
Oakland Spiders 24 @ Oregon Steel 13
Oakland is much better than Oregon at frisbee. Even playing a subpar game by their standards, the Spiders ran roughshod over the Steel. The scariest part of this Oakland run is we haven’t even seen their final form, with several key contributors missing this two game road trip. Meanwhile Oregon needs to figure out how to complete passes. The Steel are averaging the second most turnovers per game: 27, a much-too-high number—although 14 fewer turnovers per game than the league leading turnover team, Las Vegas.

Way to get the vegas turn stats into 3 of the recaps, maybe next week you can get them in 4
